Ultrasound at Specialist Radiology Group

Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves to capture detailed images of soft tissues in the body. This safe, non-invasive procedure is commonly used to assess the abdomen, pelvis (including obstetrics and gynaecology), blood vessels, and musculoskeletal structures.

Preparing for Your Ultrasound

Preparation requirements vary depending on the type of ultrasound. While musculoskeletal ultrasounds, ultrasound-guided injections, and biopsies require no special preparation, other scans—such as renal, abdominal, gynaecological, and pelvic ultrasounds—may require fasting or increased water intake beforehand. Our team will provide specific instructions when you book your appointment. You may also be asked to wear a gown during the procedure.

What to Expect

A member of our radiology team will apply a gel to the skin over the area being examined and use a handheld probe to capture images. You may need to adjust your position or briefly hold your breath during the scan. Our team will guide you throughout to ensure a comfortable experience.

How Long Does It Take?

Ultrasounds typically take between 10 to 15 minutes, though more complex examinations may last up to an hour.

Receiving Your Results

Your referring doctor will receive a detailed report and images from our radiologist, usually on the same day. You can then follow up with your doctor for further discussion and next steps.
